RULES & REGULATIONS

1. Objectives

Established 17 years ago, the Geneva International Film Festival : Cinéma Tous Ecrans competitions (Cinema for all screens) break through audiovisual barriers by screening international fictions made for cinema, television, the web and mobile phones. Our festival provides a platform on which to highlight and promote the constantly evolving nature of the language of cinema. Cinéma Tous Ecrans showcases films from all genres that reflect the society we live in, from new as well as established directors. We are also interested in films in which technological advances have all sorts of personal and social repercussions.  We’re inspired by the phenomenon of cross-media and attentive to the process of storytelling across the various screens. Furthermore, documentaries about music will be screened during this 2011 edition.

2. Festival dates

The 17th edition will take place 4-10 November 2011.

3. Deadline for submissions

All films must be registered and sent by 31st July 2011.

4. Entry requirements 

a) The selection is based on films made in 2010-2011. All films and series for cinema or television can be entered as long as they haven’t had a theatrical or television release in Switzerland.

b) Once selected, no film can be pulled from the festival programme.

c) In regards to our music section, please register your music videos with a strong narrative in the appropriate field. Please register all other types of music film in the relevant competition category (Best Feature, Best Short etc)

5. Accepted formats

Features and TV series: 35mm, HD, DIGIBETA (PAL) and Blueray

Shorts, web series and web films, pocket films, multimedia interactive fiction: 35mm, HD, DIGIBETA / Computer file (max 20’)

6. Length and genres

Title sequences are included in the durations stated for each competition category. All genres are accepted, with the exception of films deemed to be advertising a service or product.

  • Features (Cinema and TV) – over 60’
  • TV Series – minimum 2 episodes
  • Shorts – maximum 20’
  • New Media Films– no time limit
  • Web Series – minimum 3 episodes
  • Multimedia interactive fiction – no time limit
  • Pocket Films (open to pupils aged 8-18 from schools in the cantons of Geneva and Vaud, filmed with smart phone, stiils camera or tablet) - maximum 3'

 

7. Registration guidelines

For each work submitted you must fill out an online entry form on http://www.cinema-tous-ecrans.com/2011/fr/entry-form 

This generates an initial contract which you must print, sign, and post together with the DVD copy of your film (please write “no commercial value” on the envelope). The deadline for registration and posting is 31st July 2011.

8. Selection dates

The distributors and/or directors and producers of the selected films will be notified by the 15th of September 2011 at the latest.

9. Shipping and return of selected 35mm and Betas

a) We will give you the shipping address for your Betas and 35mm prints if your film is selected. In the meantime please send all correspondence and screeners to the rue Général Dufour address above.

b) IMPORTANT : a pro-forma invoice must accompany each film copy (and DVD screener), with mention of the sender’s name, film title, format, length, number of reels and whether it’s in colour or B/W.

c) Carriage and customs costs for shipping the copy to Geneva, Switzerland, are paid by the Festival. For the return of the copy, the Festival pays only the export fees from Switzerland. Transport costs to the home address are at the receiver’s charge. Prints and Betas will be returned only after the end of the Festival. DVDs of the selected films will be held in the festival’s archives.

10. Insurance

Insurance costs for the period between receipt and return of the film copies will be covered by the Festival. In case of loss or damage during this period, CTE will only be liable for the replacement value of the blank reels.

11. Subtitling

All films will be shown with English and/or French subtitles. If necessary they will be electronically subtitled at the festival’s expense. In case a script is requested, please make sure that it corresponds to the screened film/episode.

Note: If you wish to purchase subtitles, a partnership with Raggio Verde (www.raggioverde.org) allows you to have movies subtitled from various languages into English, French, German, Spanish or Italian, at a special festival price of 10 Euros per minute (instead of around 18 Euros per minute). Time needed for subtitling is between 7 and 10 days. You will be sent a MOV file (preferably) which can be converted into any other format. Once translation work is complete, you will of course have the opportunity of viewing the result before the screenings. 12. Invitations

Depending on budget availabilities, the festival’s priority shall be to invite the directors of selected films. The Festival has the right to decide upon the best possible itinerary in agreement with the guests. Invited directors are requested to attend at least one of the screenings and participate in the Q & A following the film. These dates shall be confirmed at least 15 days prior to the start of the Festival.

13. Prizes and Juries

Awards are attributed by a jury composed of international leading figures in the audiovisual realm.

COMPETITION FOR SWISS SHORTS

• Reflet d'Or  best swiss short: CHF 3'000 offered by Swisscom

• Second award for the best swiss short offered by the Taurus studios. Sound post- production services: CHF 3'000

48 HOURS FILM PROJECT COMPETITION

•  Best movie made in Geneva in 48h award: 2 airplane tickets to take part in an international competition

14. Film distribution

Registering your film authorizes CTE to use associated trailers and extracts to promote the Festival, and to show the film in the festival’s theatres. Web films, web series and pocket films will be available for viewing on our online partner’s site.

15. Other situations

The festival directors will deal with any unpredictable situation not mentioned above. They may allow special dispensation regarding specific and justified requests. Participation in the festival implies full acceptance of all the terms and conditions outlined in the current rules and regulations.
